Paratum Solutions is seeking a GIS Intern to support a utility GIS mapping project through hands-on, field-based GPS data collection. This role is entirely field-focused and ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, traveling to new locations, and contributing to the creation of accurate, high-quality spatial datasets. The project is expected to take 3-6 weeks, with the potential for another 9-12 weeks through the Fall.

Position Type: Internship, Full-Time
Pay Range: $16.50–$20.00/hour (based on experience)
Duration: Summer 2026, potential extension through Spring 2027

Collect geospatial data in the field using handheld GPS units and mobile data collection applications
Record accurate location information for assets, infrastructure, and environmental features
Verify and update existing spatial data through field validation and ground-truthing
Capture attribute data, photos, and notes to support GIS database development
Follow established data collection standards and workflows to ensure consistency and accuracy
Navigate to assigned locations using maps, GPS devices, and mobile applications
Communicate regularly with project managers regarding progress, issues, and field conditions
Maintain and care for field equipment, ensuring proper operation and security
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field
Basic understanding of GPS technology and geospatial concepts
Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather and terrain conditions
Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
Ability to follow directions and work independently in the field
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good communication and teamwork skills
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Ability to walk long distances (5–10+ miles per day)
Ability to stand, bend, and carry equipment (up to 25–30 lbs)
Willingness to work in heat, cold, and uneven terrain
100% field-based role with travel to project sites
Work may occur in urban, suburban, or natural environments
Schedule may vary based on project needs and weather conditions
